The Story Behind the Design: Spirit of Detroit

In the heart of the Motor City, at the corner of Woodward and Jefferson, stands the Spirit of Detroit. Since 1958, it has represented the soul of our city—holding a golden sphere in one hand to symbolize God, and a family group in the other to symbolize human relationships.

But at Detroit Rod & Custom, we see the spirit of this city a little differently.

For us, the true spirit of Detroit isn't just found in a monument; it’s found in the flickering neon of a late-night garage, the smell of race fuel at a Saturday morning meet, and the relentless pursuit of one more pound of boost.

Our "Spirit of Detroit" design re-imagines the iconic statue for the builders, the tuners, and the street-side legends. In our version, the Spirit of Detroit wields the tools of our trade: a massive turbocharger and a bottle of nitrous. It represents the engineering grit that put the world on wheels and the modern horsepower that keeps us ahead of the pack.

This design is a tribute to the "Detroit Grit" that refuses to leave anything stock. It’s about honoring our history while keeping our eyes firmly on the finish line.

Built With Heart. Driven By History. Fueled By Boost.
