Local Businesses We Support

Detroit Rod and Custom was born out of a love of this city and the machines it gave the world. That city was built by small shops, local suppliers, and people who show up and make things. So beside our own designs, we carry a few Detroit-area businesses we believe in.

Pingree Detroit

Pingree Detroit is a team of US veterans and Detroiters building leather goods by hand in Detroit. They use buttery-soft automotive leather reclaimed from the production of new cars and steering wheels, the same hide that was headed for an assembly line. It's a worker-owned cooperative, and some pieces, like the Kercheval keychain, come with a maker tag naming the veteran or Detroiter who made it.

Detroit Can Company

Detroit Can Company packs local Detroit and Michigan food and snacks into what they call a gift can: a vintage-style paint can, sealed shut, with a paint-can opener included. The cans are reusable, and their customers use them as ice buckets, planters, and tool caddies. They're a family-owned business, and they also run fundraisers with local schools, teams, and charities.

Inside you'll find hometown names like Vernors, Faygo Rock & Rye, Better Made chips, Kar's, Germack, Dearborn Sausage, and National Coney Island chili sauce. Contents vary by can, and the supplier may substitute an item if one runs out.
